Suede shoe cleaning, done the careful way
Suede and Mumbai are not natural friends. One surprise shower and a beautiful pair of suede boots ends up blotchy and stiff. We dry clean suede and nubuck by hand and bring back the soft, even nap.
Why suede needs special handling
Suede is the underside of leather, brushed into a soft nap. That nap is what makes it look good, and it is also what traps dust, soaks up oil and shows every drop of water. Wash it like a sneaker and it dries hard and patchy. So suede is always dry cleaned.
How we clean suede and nubuck
- Dry brushing with a crepe brush to lift dust from the nap
- An eraser for marks, scuffs and shiny patches
- Targeted treatment for oil and grease stains
- Even treatment of the whole panel for water stains, so no tide lines are left
- Steam to open the fibres, then brushing to set the nap in one direction
- An optional protective spray so the next shower does less damage
Suede we see most
Chelsea and desert boots, suede loafers, suede sneakers like Sambas and Gazelles, and nubuck work boots. Also sneakers with suede panels, where the suede needs keeping dry while the mesh beside it is washed.
The process
How the clean works, step by step
Pickup and a proper look
We collect from your door, note scuffs, loose soles and old stains with you, and tag each pair so nothing gets mixed up.
Laces out, dry brush first
Laces and insoles come out. Loose dirt and dried mud are brushed off before any water touches the shoe.
Cleaned by material
Mesh and canvas get a foam wash, leather a pH-balanced cleaner, suede a dry eraser and steam. One method never fits every pair.
Soles and midsoles
Rubber edges and midsoles are scrubbed by hand. Yellowed white soles get a separate whitening treatment where it is safe to use.
Deodorise and sanitise
Insoles and the inside lining are washed and treated for odour, so the shoe smells clean when you put your foot in, not just on the outside.
Air dried, laced, delivered
Shoes dry slowly in moving air with no direct heat, which is what warps glue and cracks leather. Then fresh laces in, packed, and back to you.

Can water stains be removed from suede?
Usually yes. We treat the whole panel evenly so the stain blends out, then restore the nap.
Do you clean suede sneakers like Sambas?
Yes. The suede overlays are dry cleaned and the rest of the shoe is cleaned to suit its material.
Can you restore faded suede colour?
Cleaning often brings colour back by itself. For real fading we can discuss a colour refresh.
How do I protect suede in the monsoon?
A protector spray helps a lot, and we can apply one after cleaning. Still, keep suede for dry days if you can.
