White shoes, actually white again
White sneakers look great for about two weeks in Mumbai. Then the dust, the rain and the local train get to them. We bring them back: uppers cleaned, grey canvas lifted, and yellowed soles whitened where the rubber allows it.
Why white shoes go grey and yellow
Two separate things happen. The upper goes grey because fine dust works its way into the fibres of canvas and mesh, where wiping cannot reach. The sole goes yellow because the rubber oxidises with air, sunlight and time. That is a chemical change, not dirt, which is why scrubbing with toothpaste barely touches it.
So we treat them separately. The upper gets a deep clean suited to its material. The sole gets a whitening treatment designed for rubber, followed by a careful rinse so nothing is left behind to yellow it again.

Being honest about results
Most white shoes come back looking close to new. Very old soles that have gone deep amber, or rubber that has started to crack, will improve but may not turn fully white. Ink, dye transfer from jeans and some food stains can leave a shadow. We look at your photo first and tell you what to expect.
The process
How the clean works, step by step
Pickup and a proper look
We collect from your door, note scuffs, loose soles and old stains with you, and tag each pair so nothing gets mixed up.
Laces out, dry brush first
Laces and insoles come out. Loose dirt and dried mud are brushed off before any water touches the shoe.
Cleaned by material
Mesh and canvas get a foam wash, leather a pH-balanced cleaner, suede a dry eraser and steam. One method never fits every pair.
Soles and midsoles
Rubber edges and midsoles are scrubbed by hand. Yellowed white soles get a separate whitening treatment where it is safe to use.
Deodorise and sanitise
Insoles and the inside lining are washed and treated for odour, so the shoe smells clean when you put your foot in, not just on the outside.
Air dried, laced, delivered
Shoes dry slowly in moving air with no direct heat, which is what warps glue and cracks leather. Then fresh laces in, packed, and back to you.

Questions people ask us
Can yellow soles be made white again?
Usually, yes. Sole whitening reverses most oxidation on rubber. Very old or cracked soles may only partly improve.
Do you clean white canvas school shoes?
Yes, all the time. Send a few pairs together and it is one pickup.
Will the white stay white?
It will look like new when it comes back. How long it stays that way depends on the weather and how often you wear them.
Do you use bleach?
No. Bleach weakens fibres and turns some whites yellow. We use cleaners made for shoes.
